Trail or Park Tuesday - Lake Michie


Todays park feature is Lake Michie which is open to the public until November 16 of 2015 and the lake hours are Friday – Monday 6:30am – 6:00pm.  The lake will also be open on the following holidays: April 3 (Good Friday), April 5 (Easter), May 25 (Memorial Day), July 4 (Independence Day), and September 7 (Labor Day). Lake Michie is a reservoir in central North Carolina, within the Neuse River watershed. Fed principally by the Flat River, Lake Michie is the primary reservoir for the city of Durham. The lake is located in northern Durham County near the town of Bahama. The address for the Lake recreational area is 2802 Bahama Rd. Durham, NC 27503.

Lake Michie offers some of the finest largemouth bass fishing in the Piedmont. Rent a city boat and motor from us or launch your own boat for a relaxing day of fishing without the hassles found at larger lakes. Below are  prices for recreational activities at Lake Michie.

This Tennis Academy is designed to teach basic introductory tennis skills to participants. The academy promotes an atmosphere of fun and sportsmanship among coaches, parents, and participants. Trail or Park Tuesday: C.M. Herndon Park

Herndon Park in Durham is 3.5 miles from Southpoint Mall straight down Fayetteville Road.

There are 2 play structures: 1 for older kids and 1 for younger. Herndon Park also has a lot of youth baseball fields and soccer fields. In fact,  it is quite popular with rental groups and Durham Parks and Recreation programs .

Night Flight Comes to a Close

The Walltown Wildcats finished up their 2014-2015 Night Flight season Wednesday evening at the Edison Johnson Recreation Center. We had lots of fun this year and made great strides building the program for the future. If you know any teenagers that would like to play in a free basketball league have them contact Jonathan Ray at (919) 560-4296 or jonathan.ray@durhamnc.gov. We have a couple months off but will begin practice soon for the 2015 PALS Teen Basketball league (another free league for teens!) which runs June-August! How to live healthy? Eating fruits and vegetables, or choose to become a vegetarian. There is a simple way to be healthy is by doing sport. In general, all persons doing sport with a reason to be healthy. Yes, it’s true. Only by jogging, you can sweat, heart healthy, launched breathing and metabolism, etc. But, did you know in fact that not all sports can be simple and easy to do. There are 7 sports that require special skills because of its uniqueness compared with other sports.
Climbing Ropes. These skills are usually owned by people who work as firefighters. But apparently this expertise had become one of sport on the first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. An unusual sport in the Olympic Games.Unique Sports
Poohsticks. This unique sport inspired Winnie the Pooh series written by A. A. Milne. How to do it quite easily? the player just enough to stand on a bridge under which flows a river. Bed racing. This Unique super weird sports was first introduced in 1965 in North Yorkshire, which is intended for the U.S. military. But now the competition is open to anyone. Each team consists of 5 people must push a bed designed with 4 wheels underneath, and one member of the team must rise to the top of the bed. This sport becomes fun because the challenges that passed during the race enough stimulate adrenaline.Unique Sports Super
Bossaball. This sport is unique because it is similar to volleyball, but different field situations. Bossaball combines elements of football, gymnastics, and Capoeira, by utilizing the trampoline in the middle of the arena for the high jump and perform exciting acrobatic maneuvers.Unique Sports Weird
Pull Rope. This sport is very familiar with the Independence Day competition in on Indonesia, but had also been a compulsory sport in the Olympic Games. Tug of war was first contested in the 1900 Paris Olympics until 1920 in Antwerp. Restraining Breath on In Water. You may have done this with your friends. It turns out that this sport is also entered into the aquatic sports that contested in the Olympics St. Louis in 1904.Unusually Sport 2
Fire Football. It uses soccer balls made from dried coconuts, then peeled the outer layers and soaked in kerosene for several days.
