On Saturday September 20, the Duke Men's Soccer team lead instruction for the DPR Co-Ed Youth Soccer Academy. Participants were engaged for an 1 1/2 hours of skills and drills followed by a game playing against the soccer team. This program is designed to teach youth the skills and basic fundamentals of soccer through drills such as toe touch, dribbling, defending. This six week Saturday morning academy will wrap up it's final session on Saturday October 11. This will be an annual program that athletics will conduct. Partnerships with the Duke soccer team will respectively grow the program.

Durham Parks and Recreation has it all! Fitness, Festivals, Camping, Luau’s, Swimming, Great Parks, Preschool, Youth and Teen activities are just to name a few. Don’t forget your children need to stay in shape as well. Walltown Park Recreation Center now offers Kids Yoga, Zumbatonic (Zumba for Kids) and Kids Cross Fit. These classes are high energy and will continue to help keep your child in shape. Stop by Monday’s at 5:00pm for Kids Yoga, 7:30pm for Kids Cross Fit. What better place to be, than at Walltown Park Recreation Center for lunchtime fitness? Barbara Lewis has been coming to Walltown for 6 months and has participated in pickleball, walking and various other programs. Since the lunchtime fitness programs have begun, Ms. Barbara has attended all daytime programs and has even tried to recruit others to join her in her workouts. She states that pickleball brought her to Walltown, and now there are other activities that keep her coming as well. She has been active in fitness all her life and believes that Walltown Park Recreation Center is the place to get it done! Ms. Barbara’s philosophy is: “why stay home where you can possibly eat unhealthy food and watch TV, when you can be at Walltown doing something productive and fun?"
Walltown Park Recreation Center (1308 W. Club Blvd) offers fitness classes Monday-Saturday. A few new programs are taking place during the day, including: Power 20 (20 minutes of flexibility, 20 minutes of strength training, and 20 minutes of stretching), Yoga, Mature Adults Zumba, and H.A.B.I.T (Hips, Abs, Butt, and Incredible Thighs).
