Cardio Tennis

A new trend in the sport of Tennis is Cardio Tennis. It is a great way to improve your skill level in tennis through a variety of fun high energy tennis drills while also improving your fitness level through a fun workout. Lil Tykes Soccer - May 6 - May 22 (Herndon Park)

In one week athletics will begin our Lil Tykes series, Soccer will be the featured sport the next three weeks of the program. Youth ages 3-5 will be introduced to basic soccer skill instruction on Tuesdays and Thursday for one hour and fifteen minutes each week.  Parents play a vital role in this program as we ask for their participation in our drills. 

Our next featured Lil Tyke Program will be Basketball held in July. Registration will begin June 1 - June 27, 2014Parents do you have a Lil Tyke???

Upcoming Program

 Here is the flyer for an upcoming program offered by Dpr for teen boys and girls. It is a free basketball league offered over the summer it is a partnership between the Parks and Recreation department and the Police Department. Two goverment entities working together to provide a service that is essential to a thriving community. This shows that the importance of a recreation is more than just the ability to play ball on a given day and get a trophy but help shape a community. Would love to hear thoughts on the importance of a recreation in a community.

The off-season of any sport is a great time to work on improving your ability as a player in that sport. The Internet can be a great resource for finding individual and group drills for all various kinds of sports. So if your not playing another sport in your off-season use that time to improve your ability for the sport you enjoy to play the most. Below are some great individual drills that can be used to improve your abilities in most sports, plus they are a great way to stay active and healthy.

Tennis.... Not just for Adults Anymore

Athletics has tennis lessons for 13-17 year olds currently registering.  These lessons will be held June 10- June 26 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7pm at Forest Hills Park.  To register go to any Durham Parks & Recreation Center or administrative offices.

 It looks like spring is finally here and when spring finally comes in the south several things start to happen one you put your garden in the ground as we were doing here at West Point on the Eno Park. Second we know its time for baseball to start up the Durham Bulls have opening day on Thursday, all spring sports start revving up from Durham Girls Soccer League to softball.
